Welcome to
HONEY GLASS FARM VALAIS BLACKNOSE SHEEP
Brought all the way from the mountains of the Valais region of Switzerland and raised in the United States, the Valais Blacknose sheep breeding program has now come to America and lambs are now available. We will keep you updated on availability of lambs and adults for sale. Since the Valais Blacknose Sheep breed is very new to the US, availability is limited. We will keep a waitlist of anyone interested.
The Valais Blacknose sheep was only in Switzerland prior to import to Britain in 2013. They were next imported to New Zealand and are finally in the United States. The first purebred animals were born in 2021. A limited numbers of animals are finally available for sale. Imported semen of purebred Valais Blacknose rams was used to breed ewes selected for the breed up program. After five generations of breeding these cut sheep we will be considered purebred Valais Blacknose sheep. In 2020, purebred embryos were imported from New Zealand, greatly speeding the introduction process

The Valais Blacknose Sheep
The Valais Blacknose sheep became an internet sensation a few years ago as the cutest sheep in the world. The breed originates from the Valais region of Switzerland, where they are a dual purpose breed used for meat and wool. Although the breed is first mentioned in 1400 AD, they were not recognized as an official breed until 1962. These fluffy black faced sheep were raised exclusively in Switzerland until imported into the British Isles in 2013. They have now also been imported to New Zealand and embryos from there to the United States

Valais Blacknose Sheep in the US
Getting the breed to the US has been a challenge since import of live animals is prohibited. A breed up program was started to build the Valais Blacknose sheep from imported semen. In 2020, the first embryos were imported from New Zealand, with the first purebred animals born in the US in 2021. Now that Valais Blacknose Sheep are here, they should be more available in the US over the next few years. We have been involved in this process from the beginning, starting with semen imported for the breed up program and now with imported embryos. Click the available lambs button and check the Swiss Valais Blacknose sheep available for sale.
